Python Developer – AI Expert (Remote, Part‑time)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Python Backend Developer to join a high‑calibre engineering team working on AI‑enhanced developer tools. This part‑time, remote contract role focuses on building robust APIs while testing cutting‑edge AI models that shape the future of coding workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimise REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable APIs.
• Implement data validation, error handling, and security best practices across backend services.
• Plan and execute database migrations, performance tuning, and schema changes.
• Test AI‑powered models in the Cursor environment, providing detailed incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots.
• Participate in intensive 4‑day testing bursts to evaluate AI impact on real coding workflows.
• Collaborate with the research team via a dedicated Slack channel, sharing findings and improvement proposals.
• Complete post‑burst surveys delivering insights on model performance and developer experience.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience, primarily using Python.
• Proven ability to build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong understanding of API security, data validation, and error handling.
• Hands‑on experience with database migrations, performance optimisation, and schema design.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools, especially Cursor, is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear incident and bug reporting.
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environment.
