Principal Systems Engineer

About the role

The Principal Systems Engineer will lead the analysis of user requirements, concept of operations, and high‑level architectures to produce comprehensive system requirement specifications. This senior technical role provides leadership for integrating requirements, design, and technology across complex, government‑focused projects.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high‑level system architectures to develop detailed system requirement specifications.
• Guide users in formulating requirements, propose alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies.
• Lead design activities, system architecture development, and creation of system design documentation.
• Develop and maintain system engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
• Define verification methods, processes, and evaluation criteria, and produce verification plans.
• Assess program risks, quantify consequences, and support risk‑management planning.
• Support DoD Certification/Accreditation processes and other government C&A activities.
• Produce operational, technical standards, and services views using DoDAF standards.
• Interact with government stakeholders to address technical considerations, issues, and conflicts.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in systems engineering within defense or government environments.
• Proven ability to lead requirement analysis, architecture development, and design activities.
• Strong background in producing and reviewing system engineering documentation.
• Experience interfacing with government customers and managing technical risks.
