Medical Escort (Internist) – Ecuador

About the role

The Medical Escort (Internist) provides comprehensive medical escort services to beneficiaries under IOM’s care, covering the entire journey from pre‑departure preparations to hand‑over upon arrival. The role ensures the health, safety, and well‑being of patients while complying with IOM, national, and airline regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Verify passport validity (minimum six months), visa requirements, and a current practicing license before departure.
• Update immunisation status and prepare required medical documentation (MEDIF/MEDA).
• Familiarise with beneficiaries’ medical files and coordinate with IOM medical teams and external specialists.
• Conduct remote consultations with receiving healthcare providers, IOM headquarters, or other IOM offices as needed.
• Accompany beneficiaries throughout travel, managing any medical emergencies that arise.
• Ensure full compliance with IOM guidelines, national regulations, and airline policies during the escort.
• Submit all required medical information forms to the relevant airline and authorities.

Required profile

• Licensed medical professional (physician) with a valid practicing license in the country of residence.
• Possession of a passport valid for at least six months beyond the escort period and any necessary visas.
• Experience in clinical care and patient transport, with the ability to adapt to last‑minute itinerary changes.
• High ethical standards and respect for gender and socio‑cultural differences of beneficiaries.

Required skills

• Valid medical license and knowledge of international travel health regulations.
• Ability to complete and submit medical documentation (MEDIF/MEDA) accurately.
• Proficiency in remote consultation tools and basic emergency response.
