AI & Data Engineer

About the role

North Highland is looking for an AI & Data Engineer to join its Quito team. You will help design, build and operate modern data platforms and AI‑enabled solutions that address real business challenges for our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement data architectures such as data lakes, warehouses and lakehouse solutions.
• Build, maintain and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark, Python and cloud data services.
• Work with both structured and unstructured data, ensuring quality, accuracy and reliability.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product owners and business stakeholders to deliver data‑driven and AI initiatives.
• Translate business requirements into technical data workflows and document solutions following best practices.
• Support senior engineers in client workshops, analysis and solution delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering.
• Authorized to work in Ecuador without visa sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SQL.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Experience with PySpark and building ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake.
• Knowledge of Azure, AWS or GCP data services (e.g., BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse).
• Understanding of data modelling, data warehousing concepts and data architecture principles.
• Awareness of data governance, data quality and security best practices.
