Economist – UN Resident Coordinator Office (Quito)

About the role

The Economist will provide substantive economic analysis and evidence‑based advice to support sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing in Ecuador. Working within the United Nations Resident Coordination Office in Quito, the role collaborates closely with the Resident Coordinator, UN Country Team and various UN and development partners to inform policy and programme decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Research, analyze and present economic, social and sustainable development data, identifying emerging trends and best practices related to economic transformation, green transition, digital transformation and SDG financing.
• Conduct policy analysis to support the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team in identifying challenges, opportunities and policy options for accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring gender equality and “leave no one behind” principles.
• Contribute to the development and localization of global guidelines, tools and methodologies for integrated SDG analysis, strategic foresight, data‑driven decision‑making and innovative financing approaches.
• Prepare substantive inputs for policy papers, briefing notes, reports and other knowledge products on macro‑economic trends, SDG financing and the role of the private sector in sustainable economic transformation.
• Support engagement with national government, international financial institutions, private sector, academia and civil society to promote collaborative initiatives, partnerships and innovative financing mechanisms for the SDGs.
