Scientist – Coating Development

About the role

Axalta is seeking a Customer Support Scientist to join its OEM Business Technology team. The role focuses on developing cost‑effective, high‑quality coating products that meet customer specifications and can be efficiently transferred to production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise coating recipes following the APQP process, including lab sample preparation and testing to meet colour and performance specifications.
• Ensure recipes are cost‑effective by analysing material costs and their impact on profitability.
• Collaborate with Operations, Application, and Account teams to scale‑up new or modified products and support line trials.
• Maintain and update test specifications, methods, and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Identify rework routes to reduce non‑productive inventory and support quality control.
• Lead problem‑solving activities for customer issues using methodologies such as 8D.
• Participate in safety and hazard assessments related to coating processes.

Required profile

• B.S. in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent coating R&D experience.
• Minimum 3 years of coating development experience, preferably in an OEM environment.
• Strong project‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent verbal and written English.
• Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across functions.
