Climate Risk Consultant

About the role

IDB Invest is seeking a motivated Climate Risk Consultant to support the implementation of its climate strategy. The role sits within the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) Division and contributes to both mitigation and adaptation agendas across high‑risk projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to project teams on high‑risk climate operations, including decarbonisation, energy transition, resource efficiency, and climate adaptation.
• Review technical documentation, climate action plans, and mitigation/adaptation measures linked to investment proposals and supervision activities.
• Support development, monitoring, and reporting of climate‑related action plans and performance indicators.
• Implement and operationalise project‑level and portfolio‑level GHG accounting in line with the GHG Protocol, Paris Alignment methodologies, and MDB practices.
• Collect, quality‑control, analyse, and report internal GHG data, and improve integration of climate metrics into institutional systems.
• Analyse and enhance internal climate‑related workflows, data systems, and reporting processes, exploring AI‑enabled and digital solutions for risk screening and knowledge generation.

Required profile

• Strong motivation to advance climate risk management within a development finance context.
• Experience working on complex climate projects, preferably in mitigation or adaptation.
• Ability to collaborate with investment teams, ESG specialists, and digital/data teams.

Required skills

• GHG accounting and familiarity with the GHG Protocol.
• Knowledge of Paris Alignment methodologies and MDB climate practices.
• Data analysis and quality‑control for climate metrics.
• Experience with AI‑enabled or digital tools for climate risk screening and data management.
